About

Edrock is a Toronto-based rock band whose name comes from the Persian/Arabic word ادراک (Edraak), meaning perception. Founded in 2023 by Arash Emadi (vocals, guitar), Pouyan Azarkaman (guitar, production), and Matin Ansari (vocals), the band writes across a spectrum of rock, hard rock, and soft metal — with blues, funk, and Persian traditional music folded in along the way. All lyrics are in Persian.

Songs move between intimate love songs and full-on political statements, shaped by personal experience and the collective voice of Iranians at home and across the diaspora. The current core lineup features Arash Emadi, Pouyan Azarkaman, and Kavosh Zonoozi (drums).

Since their debut, Edrock has sold out Toronto venues including Drake Underground and Fairview Library Theatre, and anchored recurring community events including Beytooteh and Tak o Took's concert series. In October 2023, they were named Best Band at the Sing With Me Festival at Fairview Library Theatre.

In 2026, Edrock was awarded a grant by Ontario Arts Council Music Recording Projects to produce their debut album. The band is independently released and distributed digitally via Repost Network across all major streaming platforms.
